Developing Leaders to Guide Our Future
The Range Leadership Academy is a collaborative effort of University of Wisconsin Extension, Michigan State University Extension, Iron County Development Zone Council and Gogebic County Economic Development Commission.
This is an exciting new opportunity for
residents of Gogebic County, Michigan and Iron County, Wisconsin area who possess a willingness and desire to be active participants and leaders in their local communities.
The program is called Gogebic Range
Leadership Academy, and it may be just the catalyst that you or someone you know, needs to gain the confidence, skills, and knowledge to become more active and effective in their role in the community.
Mission: To promote community leadership by developing knowledgeable, skilled leaders committed to guiding the Gogebic Range through the changes of today and into tomorrow, ensuring a high quality of life and positive growth.
What is Gogebic Range Leadership Academy?
A one year leadership program consisting of workshops, seminars, discussions, tours. Graduates will be better prepared to move into leadership roles in the community.
What are the Goals?
• Provide educational and skill building experiences that enable graduates to better understand their community and their personal roles as leaders.
• Establish strong communication skills and channels among participants and community leaders.
• Encourage community volunteerism.
• Introduce participants to community business leaders and resources.
• Create a network of leaders as catalysts for positive change.
What will participants learn?
• Personal and interpersonal skills
• Organizational and community leadership skills.
• The low-down on economic development and the economy.
• The basics about local, county and state government and the judicial system.
• How our system works
A solid background on issues related to:
· Education
· Human services, family and youth
· Land use and natural resources
· Hands-on Leadership Skills including:
· Conflict resolution
· Running effective meetings
· Influencing change
· Networking
Who should participate?
· Anyone interested in community involvement.
· Anyone interested in enhancing leadership skills.
What does the Program Cost?
· Enrollment in the Leadership Academy is $300 for each participant. Participants may seek sponsorship assistance.
· Community sponsorship is underwriting some program costs.
How do I apply or nominate someone?
· Complete the form on the back of the brochure to receive program details and an application.
· Complete and return an application form.
Applications for the next class (Sept. 2006-March 2007) are due by June 15th.
What is the Time Commitment?
Participants are expected to attend ALL sessions.
